Introduction to Policy Surveillance Webinars

The Center’s free webinar series introduces policy surveillance methods and applications. Attendees will learn the differences between scientific legal mapping techniques (e.g., policy surveillance, legal assessments), the steps of the policy surveillance process, and varying uses for the legal data. Next webinar: August 2025.

Legal Epi at Lunch Webinars: Advanced Issues in Legal Epidemiology

The Legal Epi at Lunch Webinar Series focuses on exploring in-depth methodological issues or approaches in scientific legal mapping and legal epidemiology research. Each one-hour session will include expert staff from the Center for Public Health Law Research and guest researchers and practitioners using legal epidemiology methods in a unique or innovative way and will offer best practices, technology solutions, tips, and tricks for attendees.

Our next Legal Epi at Lunch Webinar on August 21, 2025, will focus on tracking preemption laws in the United States. Presenters will discuss legal mapping projects focused on tracking preemption at the state and local levels in a variety of domains — from firearm laws, race and racism in schools, transgender rights, zoning, employment law, and more. The researchers will share findings from their work, discuss methodological challenges, and share insights on how this research can support policymaking. Use the link below to register for free.

Policy Surveillance Institute

The annual Policy Surveillance Institute is a two-day intensive program intended for individuals interested in learning each step in the policy surveillance process with in-person, in-depth training from experts from the Center for Public Health Law Research.

The Policy Surveillance Institute is intended for individuals interested in studying policies and law once they are enacted, and exploring variation in policy across jurisdictions and over time. Participants will learn each step in the policy surveillance process through individual and collaborative exercises and using CPHLR's MonQcle software.

Our next Policy Surveillance Institute will take place August 7-8, 2025. Registration is now closed.
